BASF is providing 22 chemical and mechanical engineering students the opportunity to spend this summer working as interns at its Geismar, Louisiana site — the global company’s largest manufacturing facility in North America.
The interns, selected from universities around the nation, are participating in engineering projects that allow them to apply technical and professional skills and knowledge to real-world situations.
“Because of BASF’s growth and investment in North America, specifically the Gulf Coast region, we have a strong need to retain and grow our highly-skilled, technical workforce,” Tom Yura, senior vice president and manager of the BASF site in Geismar, Louisiana. “Since 2009, BASF has invested more than $350 million in Louisiana, translating into almost 100 new jobs. Our internship program helps us attract potential employees and give them the opportunity to grow their skills while learning more about BASF in the process.”
In addition to assigned responsibilities at the manufacturing facility in Geismar, the interns also have the opportunity to participate in BASF’s community activities through volunteering. The BASF interns recently completed a project with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge where they spent an entire Saturday repairing a home for a family in the Baton Rouge area.
